Aston Martin is really into electric cars, and they’re planning to use a mix of electricity and gasoline in their cars. But they’re also excited about their new gas-powered V-12 engine.
This new engine is supposed to be super powerful, making 824 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of twisting force. Before this, they had another V-12 engine in their DBS 770 Ultimate car, which had 759 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque.
The new engine has some upgrades, like a tougher block of metal where the cylinders go, new heads for the cylinders, and the spark plugs are in different spots now.
Aston Martin hasn’t said which cars will get this new engine, but they promise it will be in their fanciest and rarest models. They’re starting with a mystery car that’s coming out in 2024.
They dropped a hint about maybe bringing back the Vanquish name when they ended their announcement with “All will be vanquished.”
They’re only making a few of these engines by hand, so they’ll be pretty special.
The boss of Aston Martin, Roberto Fedeli, thinks V-12 engines are not just powerful, but they show off how smart the engineers are.
Other companies like Lamborghini and Ferrari also love V-12 engines and want to keep using them. But Bentley is stopping making their 12-cylinder engine, which is shaped like a W, this year.
Aston Martin is also working on a bunch of electric cars. They’ve got plans for a big SUV, a sporty SUV, a regular sports car, and a super-fast hypercar. These cars are all based on the same idea, but they’ve had to delay them a bit. They were supposed to start being delivered in 2025, but now it’s looking more like 2027 because they’re not sure how many people want to buy them yet. That’s what Lawrence Stroll, the big boss at Aston Martin, told reporters in April.
