So, you have an upcoming auto shipment reserved and do not know what to do to prepare your car for shipping. No worries, we are here to help! While our drivers do a majority of the work during pick-up, there are a few things you can do prior to vehicle pick-up to make the process go a little bit smoother.

Wash Your Car

As unimportant as a car wash may sound when thinking about having your car shipped, we assure you that there is good reason for it! Having your car freshly washed will allow the walk through of the car during pick-up to be much easier. A clean car will show any signs of existing damage more clearly, allowing the report on the Bill of Lading, your car shipping receipt document, to accurately capture any damage on the vehicle. This is crucial as it serves as a baseline for the walk through of the vehicle that occurs after the vehicle is dropped off. It is important to have a thorough awareness of any damage on the vehicle before shipping so that any damage that may occur during shipping is noticed and dealt with.

Remove Personal Belongings

When you ship your vehicle with us, we do allow some objects to remain in the vehicle during transit. However, in case of an emergency, we suggest to not keep any personal belongings on significance in the vehicle. While we ship your vehicle, we do provide liability insurance of the car so that if anything were to occur while it is with our driver, it is covered by us. But it is important to note that this coverage does not extend to objects within the vehicle.

Have ยผ Tank of Gas

A gas tank that is around a quarter full is the sweet spot for auto shipping. This is a gas tank that does not unnecessarily weigh the vehicle down while on the road but also leaves enough gas for the driver to load and unload the vehicle comfortably, as well as have some gas in case an emergency were to arise. Prior to pick-up, be sure to check that your tank is no fuller than ยผ full. If your vehicle is electric, we suggest having it charged around halfway.

Remove External Additions

External additions on a vehicle would be anything from an antenna to a surfboard rack. If your vehicle has any add-on accessory on the outside of the vehicle, in order to simplify the shipping process, we ask that they be removed prior to pick-up.

If you have any further questions about how else to prepare your vehicle for shipping, do not hesitate to give us a call! Our agents are eager to help every step of the way.
