College students are starting to head back to school!
  • Post category:Blogs

If you are going away to college to either start your first year or are a returning student, we hope you have a wonderful school year! For those of you who are bringing a car to campus with you for the first time, navigating that freedom can be a bit difficult at times. For some, it may be the first time you have full, uninterrupted access to a car. This can sometimes mean you are a bit more naรฏve when it comes to being responsible for a vehicle. If that sounds like you, we can help make sure you are ready to have this responsibility and ensure that you keep your car, and you, save and sound!

Make Sure Valuables Are Put Away

Whether you have personal valuables or financial valuables in your car, if you decide to leave them in your car overnight or for a long period of time in which your car is unattended, be sure to keep them out of sight at least. The quickest way to do this is to cover them in the car; however, if possible, we suggest putting them in your trunk. However, the safest thing to do is to fully remove them from your car, so only keep valuables locked away if completely necessary!

Be Conscientious With Where You Park

When it comes to parking, every college campus is different. Some schoolโ€™s assign you specific lots, some assign you specific spots in specific lots, and others do not assign parking at all. If you have unassigned parking, be aware of where you park. Make sure you do not park in any restricted parking areas or spots that are possibly assigned parking spots for certain people. Additionally, a lot of schools do have specific student parking areas and each car gets a parking pass to enter them. If this is your parking situation, be sure to park only in the lots and structures that align with your pass.

Do Not Sit In Your Car for Long Periods of Time

When it comes to getting in your car or getting out of your car, do not dillydally. Many young people often get in their car and sit there for a few minutes before actually leaving or sit in the car after parking for several minutes. This can be unsafe, especially if you do not lock the doors, as young people are often targeted when in their cars. The saftest choice is to get in, lock the doors, and leave straight away, or get out, lock the doors, and head to your destination.
